Kevin McAleer was born in Santa Monica, California in 1961. After receiving a doctorate in history, he now lives in Berlin, where he works as a writer and translator from German and French. His short stories have been published both in American magazines as well as in the German satire magazine “Titanic”, the “taz” and “TIP” magazine. He is the author of the award-winning play “Bombay by the Spree” (2010), the cult novel “Surfer Boy” (2007; 2015) and co-author with Adam Blauhut of the story collection “Two Americans in German Exile” (1998; 2017). His historical treatise “Dueling: The Cult of Honor in Fin-de-Siècle Germany” (1994; 2014) was honored by Encyclopaedia Britannica as one of their “Books of the Year”.
