Hermann Schulz, born in East Africa, was the director of the Peter Hammer Verlag publishing house in Wuppertal from 1967 to 2001, successor to future president Johannes Rau. His travels have taken him to more than fifty countries, including Nicaragua, the setting for “The Journey to Egypt”. Since 1998, he has been publishing his own books for children, young adults and adults. He is a regular collaborator with the magazine AMOS for the literature and international understanding departments; he is also active in the Christian-Islamic Consortium of Marl. In 2001 he received the Art and Culture Award for international understanding.
